Introducing: Astrology for Writers!
How do you like the new name?
The previous title (astrology for busy bitches) was one that was slapped on, a bit roughshod, at its inception; astrology for writers is simple but to the point, because that’s exactly what this newsletter has grown into: a bi-weekly guide to how the stars are impacting and even perhaps inspiring your work.
In addition to a name change, there are a few other robust changes moving forward.
Changes to Existing Content
Starting today, free subscribers will receive one full edition of the newsletter every month - the Mark Your Calendar section and all transits included!
Paid subscribers continue to receive two full editions each month
New Content
Starting next week, both the free & paid newsletters will receive a monthly Writer’s Birth Chart - a write-up by me, breaking down the birth chart of a famous writer who exemplifies the season! First up, of course, is Libra.
Paid subscribers will begin receiving additional content: Q&As with astro-savvy writers and astrologers as well as other goodies I’m cooking up.
I can’t wait to see how this newsletter continues to evolve - thanks for coming along for the journey.
Xx,
Jeanna
Full Moon in Aries: You’ve Got This!
October 13
In case you didn’t know, it’s Libra season: the first official month of fall, a time when we all look to what we’re harvesting. It’s also cuffing season, and for some of us, that means committing to particular kinds of creative projects. And that means assessment - not only of the project, but of ourselves. How is our energy? What do our expectations look like? What can we reasonably commit to?
The Full Moon in Aries rolls around mid-month to remind all of us to value our own time, our own energy, our sense of self, our value. That fire within. Squaring Pluto in Capricorn, it’s bound to hook into whatever intrinsic structure you’ve been working on for the last few years. This is about emotional depth, transformation. This is about finding your grit.
One last note: as we all know, full moons are about completing cycles. What have you been growing, or working on, since early April 2019 - specifically, perhaps, April 5? (That’s when we had a New Moon in Aries.) The moon runs on a cycle, and so do we: what we grow comes to fruition later in the lunar year with a full moon. This isn’t to say that projects start and finish in exact timing with the moon, but rather, that new parts of a project turn over, and other parts finish or come to an end, at particular moments, in often surprise us with their specificity.
The full moon is at 20 degrees of Aries; those of you with planets or points within 3 degrees of this moon will feel it in a particular way.
Venus in Scorpio: Some Gothic Novel Type Shit
October 8-November 1
Today, Venus, the planet of value, love, and beauty, enters Scorpio, the sign of deep, dark transformation. Scorpio craves intimacy, and doesn’t care how dark and dirty we have to get to find it. This can run a bit contrary to Venus, which is more comfortable at a party or an art museum: you know, the finer things.
Venus wants a love that can be shared in all kinds of publics. Scorpio is a lover that wants the dungeon, or a candlelit bedroom.
All of this is to say: this energy can find us writers a bit off kilter, swinging from obsessive displays of public affection (watch what you put in that personal essay!) to holding your cards a little too close to your chest, convinced that only your innermost circle can truly understand you (okay but actually: you SHOULD pitch that).
Advice for managing this (brief) transit: snuggle up to your most trusted writerly companions, and slide into their DMs (or your group text) on the regular. Agree to share your insecurities together rather than on Twitter, perhaps. And remind each other that yes, you will all get through this.
Mark Your Calendar
October 12
Venus in Scorpio opposite Uranus in Taurus
Value-driven, artsy, wants everything to be beautiful Venus connecting with rebellious, let’s fuck shit up Uranus? This does not have the makings of an easy day. But on the plus side, if you rock with this energy, you might have a creative breakthrough.
October 14
Sun in Libra square Saturn in Capricorn
This is a tough self-esteem day, friends. Schedule some self-care into the calendar, or at the very least a reminder to take any rejections or “no’s” with a grain of salt.
October 15
Mercury in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces
Just what the doctor ordered. Mercury comes up with the ideas, and Neptune is all about those far-out daydreams, spirituality, and otherworldly experiences. This is a day to really get down to work: not in the, I’m going to pitch a million ideas to editors way, but in the, I’m going to actually give myself some time to sink into this project way - even if it means waking up extra early to do so.
October 19
Mercury in Scorpio sextile Pluto in Capricorn
You want productivity in the, let’s pitch shit and get answers and mark things off the to do list? Here you go. This energy wants to get shit done and moved out the door. This is the, you suddenly have a well of energy to clear your desk day.
October 20
Venus in Scorpio sextile Saturn in Capricorn
If you’ve been having trouble finding the structure for a creative project, really struggling to get the right shape of something, today has supportive energy for untangling that particular knot.
October 21
Venus in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces
Another dreamy, all systems go, put on some music, get some tea (or another favorite beverage), and just write. Venus/Neptune days can feel hazy AF, and if you channel that energy toward a creative outlet, it’s gorgeous. (But maybe be wary of overpromising or overspending.)
