Beloveds!
It is that time of year, where school is starting and where some of us stare longingly at the school supplies sections that have popped up in big box stores. Just last night, I had a dream about my own (wildly rearranged) college campus. Even the subconscious knows.
If you're wanting to scratch the itch and take a class of your own to jump start or further process your own writing, I have a few one-off non-fiction, memoir-focused workshops for you — complete with early bird pricing.
My signature Writing the Hybrid Memoir one-day workshop is back! Early bird pricing for this next week is $99, after which it goes up to $135.
In this 2 hour class, we'll establish what, exactly, makes a hybrid memoir, in language that will help define your project for agents and editors. We'll discuss how to structure the sprawl, and look at memoirists who get the blend just right. By the end of class, you'll have the template you need to both articulate and sell your project, as well as the narrative techniques you need to move forward with confidence.
Look, I’ve taken a lot of writing classes, and most of them were great, but Jeanna’s was the best. Beyond writing bona fides, Jeanna comes with academic and business savvy—and it shows. She structures and presents her material so thoughtfully. It simultaneously felt like an invigorating grad school lecture and well-prepared business presentation. Rare to find a writing teacher with this blend of talent!

Writing the Hybrid Memoir returns Sunday, September 18th from 1-3pm Eastern.
I am so excited to teach/experience Tell It Slant // Uncovering the Truth in Memoir with y’all again,
This one is very special, and is very close to my heart. It’s part course but also part experience, part container, something that blends writing alongside spiritual practice and Heart.
In this class, we discuss how memory works, but also how group think, generational, and societal dynamics shape and impact not only a narrative, but a self.
We examine the texts of memoirists who've tackled this question like Melissa Febos and Maxine Hong Kingston, and also consider theoretical frameworks that help us reckon with hauntings and ghosts. Trauma-informed generative writing prompts will help us explore our own past family dynamics and self-limiting beliefs.
This class is both a container and a permission slip for those writing their way through the underworld of their own stories.
Tell It Slant returns Sunday, October 8th from 1-3:30pm Eastern. Early bird pricing, if you sign up within the next week, is $125 (after which it’s $175).
Tell It Slant has a more limited class size to accommodate more intimacy.
Hope to see you this fall!
As always, let me know if you have any questions.
Jeanna
hey love! question about the Tell It Slant course -- is it geared toward working through specific types of trauma? I'm hoping to write a collection of essays largely focused on medical trauma endured through a lifetime of chronic illnesses and was wondering if you think this course could benefit me on that front :) thanks in advance!
