January 24, 2020 feels like a year ago. A lifetime ago. Pre-pandemic, pre-uprising, pre-everything that has come to define our year. But still, think back to what was happening for you on and around January 24th. Think back to what you were beginning. What was in the early stages, its early throes. That was the New Moon in Aquarius, also known as the Chinese New Year—the first new year of the year.
Today, the Full Moon in Aquarius arrives—and with it, a question. So, what’s happened since then? If new moons are activations, full moons are culminations: not necessarily the end, but certainly the crest of a wave that began with a ripple months prior.
And this wave, arriving exactly at 11:58am ET, is big. Big, juicy, and vibrant with the innovative possibility only Aquarius energy can bring, it is square Uranus, the planet of disruption, revolution, and change. Uranus wants to throw a surprise into the mix. Uranus wants to ask, but what have you NOT thought of? What’s the angle you aren’t seeing? Expect something new to come up this week in your full moon projects and celebrations, and thank the Promethean energy of the planet of rebellion.
A final note: as my morning here in Brooklyn has slowly unfolded—pouring coffee, watching the birds out my window, scrolling social media even though I promise myself I won’t do that as often—I’ve stumbled over multiple posts of the same Mary Oliver poem on Instagram and Twitter. I love Mary, but I also think that synchronicities are something to be taken note of, and on this particular Full Moon, her downright Aquarian words in “Don’t Hesitate” are especially worth paying attention to:
If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don’t hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed or about to be. We are not wise, and not very often kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this is its way of fighting back, that sometimes something happens better than all the riches or power in the world. It could be anything, but very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins. Anyway, that’s often the case. Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.
Happy Full Moon, beloveds. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Full Moon Writing Prompts
What projects were still in their nascent, early stages on January 24th? How have they grown since then? How is this reflective, or not reflective, of your “typical” process?
How has your relationship to inspiration shifted over the course of the unusual and extraordinary events of this year? How have your expectations of your own creativity changed? Has your internal definition of “accomplishment” shifted with it, or are you still holding yourself to pre-pandemic standards?
Aquarian energy is known for being innovative; so is Uranus. What in your creative and/or professional life feels in desperate need of innovation or change? Or, does something in your personal life need to shift in order to support changes in your creativity?
