Just gonna let my freak flag fly here: I did a book deal spell. I know a bunch of other authors who’ve done them, too. And they work — if, as in many forms of magic and faith, you’ve laid the groundwork and aren’t expecting a fairy godmother to appear on your doorstep and turn your rags to riches when you haven’t done a goddamn thing. If, as in so many areas of life, you’re open to adapting and don’t reject every opportunity that comes your way unless it looks exactly as you expect it to.
As Oprah has so often said, luck is just preparation meeting opportunity. Book deal spells are part of that preparation — albeit that helps grease the wheels and help opportunity roll in a li’l easier. Certainly, they can fall under the banner of prosperity and abundance magic. But to my mind, they might also, in many cases, be considered road openers.
A few caveats before we get on with this: I really do want to emphasize the preparation piece here. If you’re still working on your first draft, maybe hold off till you’re further down the road! Tuck it away for later, and focus your spiritual efforts elsewhere. Keep working on your craft and writing the damn book. To very generously paraphrase slash misquote Melissa Febos, magic is not a substitute for the hard work of making good art.
But it can certainly give you a boost.
Today, I’ll be walking us through the basics of preparing for a candle spell (with an alternate for sugar and honey jars). There are many, many other options, and many, many other traditions and paths available. This is just one! I encourage everyone to research, to talk to their friends, to go to their local witch shop, and to seek out as many solid resources as they can in their journey.
