Hello friends,
I just got home to Brooklyn from a week-long trip to New England — one my girlfriend and I had been planning and looking forward to for practically all of this last year. I went to grad school in Boston, and she’s from that part of the country, which is to say, we have a lot of people there. Over the last few months, our conversations have looked something like this: Once the vaccine is out, who do we want to see the most, AND who is it possible to see by car rather than plane? When will we be fully vaccinated? When will everyone we love and want to see be fully vaccinated? How do all the parents feel about us seeing or not seeing their kids?
And so on and so forth.
Holding my best friend’s new baby and putting my feet in the ocean at every available opportunity was the best heart medicine after a year of collective trauma. But the trip also happened to occur — unavoidably — smack in between the two eclipses, so I am predictably, profoundly exhausted on all levels.
Which is to say: this one is much shorter than usual. (The next newsletter will be the In Conversation author interview for June — and I really think y’all will love this one.)
Xx,
Jeanna
Today’s Annular Solar Eclipse in Gemini is a bit of a paradox. On the one hand, we tend to experience eclipses like a collective wipeout. Exhaustion abounds. (Hi, hello.) But on the other hand, solar eclipses function in similar ways as new moons, inciting a deep, ravishing hunger in a particular area of our lives. Square Neptune in Pisces, this eclipse has the potential to increase idealism and diffuse our common sense, but it is also trine Saturn in Aquarius, so there is a stabilizing element to what we are wanting to grow more of.
This Gemini eclipse is the second in a series of two Gemini eclipses in your chart; the first occurred on November 30, 2020. Return to your calendars, journals, or mental note keeping to consider what was happening for you around that time, what you were craving more of in life. More space to develop an aesthetic? More work-life balance? More writing time? More sex? This eclipse is also exact at 19* of Gemini, so folks with personal planets or points within a few degrees of that in the mutable signs (Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces, and Virgo) will feel this one in a particularly pointed way.
It cannot be overstated that this Gemini eclipse is happening while Mercury is retrograde in Gemini, which intimates that the messages you are receiving about what you want or desire are also, perhaps, in need of some kind of review or revision. Something to bear in mind.
