Aquarius Season: The Rebel With a Cause
January 21-February 18
The eclipses are over (for now), but the energy that responsible Saturn and transformative Pluto’s extraordinary conjunction brought us will continue to stay with us and weigh on us throughout the next few weeks. What do we do with what we’ve learned? Together, Saturn and Pluto demand consciousness, that we put one step in front of the other, day by day.
What do these planets have to do with Aquarius season, which has a reputation for being wacky, weird, the rebel without a cause? Well, Aquarius’ traditional ruling planet is Saturn, the planet of time, structure, the ultimate taskmaster. If anything, some astrologers (myself included) see Aquarius as the ultimate rebel with a cause, the roving intellectual who, in that distinctly Saturnian way, understands every system and rulebook from the inside out in order to break those rules most efficiently, expertly, and convincingly.
Aquarius has a reason, see, even if its reasons are its own, its logic perhaps a little more winding and even queer than tradition would have it. And, coming on the heels of eclipse season and Saturn/Pluto’s conversation, this Aquarius season is inviting us to look at those structures in our lives - internal and external alike - that need a deep refurbish and even, maybe, a big ol’ wrecking ball and rebuild.
Aquarius season will bring us a rather fiery Valentine’s Day as well as the kickoff of the first Mercury Retrograde of the year. It’s gonna be a big one. Get ready.
New Moon in Aquarius: Time to Fly
January 24
For writers, New Moons in air signs are often beautiful times for writing projects. The moon, which is all about our emotions, our instincts, and our physical body, is a little less caught up in the drudge of the day to day in air signs, and a little freer to get lost in imagination. In Aquarius, especially, the moon can get a little dissociative, flying above everything else at 20000 feet. We might have to watch ourselves when engaging in real life conversations with loved ones who very much (and rightfully!) expect us to be present, but when it comes to creative projects, this is excellent energy for kicking off something new or kickstarting something that has been stuck.
Mercury in Aquarius: The Messenger of the Gods
January 16-February 2
For the next few weeks, words come easily, editors are responsive (!), and it’s easy to dip in and out of the work, managing the balance between your mental creative time and the mundane demands of daily life. Mercury, the planet of communication and ideas, loves being in air signs (it thrives) and it’s obvious why: in air, Mercury - also known as Hermes, the decidedly androgynous messenger of the gods - can go above and below, as fast as the wind. Your mind is limitless. Ideas come freely. And in Aquarius, Mercury wants to commit to an idea. To a big idea.
Here, the only limit is your own discipline.

January 15
Venus in Pisces sextile Uranus in Taurus
Can you say breakthrough? Give yourself the space for sudden realizations around how a particularly stuck project could get a restart. Also a good day for pitching off-the-wall ideas that you can do a quick turnaround on. Venus/Uranus connections have that unexpected spark to them, but you’ve gotta deliver fast, cause sometimes the follow-through fizzles!
January 23
Venus in Pisces sextile Jupiter in Capricorn
Today, your artistic Venusian ideas and impulses are supported by expansive Jupiter. Remember, Venus isn’t just about love - she governs value, so she’s very much about how you make money, too. Rein in the impulse to overspend and, instead, do some big-picture thinking about how your creative ideas could be making money for you.
January 26
Venus in Pisces square Mars in Sagittarius
At its best, this is energetic, motivating energy to get shit done. Check in with yourself to make sure that you’ve got your stuff prioritized, or you could find yourself waging unproductive inner warfare today.
January 27
Venus in Pisces conjunct Neptune in Pisces
Emails might get lost, but boy, is it a good time to take an edible and daydream. Today, creative input > output! Plus, the moon is in Pisces, so it’s a very watery, dreamy (dare I say romantic?) day.
