Friday is Venus’s day. A day for connection, for beauty, for joy. For sharing what is bringing us joy, and what we’ve loved.
And how perfect that Taurus season starts today! Taurus, a sign ruled by Venus, starting its season on Friday of all days. The sun is here just in time for tomorrow’s big Jupiter-Uranus event. Love it.
As ever, the Friday Love List is in honor of and offering to Venus. Here are some of the things that most brought me pleasure and delight this week.
Things I loved this week
Sphere & Sundry Waters
I know there are a lot of fans of Sphere & Sundry’s astro-magical materia here! I’ve been using S&S to augment and support my writing life, spiritual practice, and more since 2021, and the differences are real.
Perhaps unsurprising since water is ruled by the moon (quite literally, considering the ocean tides), and we are still in eclipse season, but I have been especially keen on the S&S hydrosol/waters lately. This week, some series waters I made great use of included:
Saturn in Aquarius, to help me focus and cool down and really center at the start of the week (very notable to me that this hydrosol includes melted snow)
Regulus & Jupiter in Sagittarius II (“Jup-Juice”), spritzed on my wet hair after a shower to support confidence
For winding down in the evenings, and to support heart-affirming play, Exalted Luna (Taurus moon + Jupiter influence)
And for bedtime, Exalted Venus II (Venus in Pisces)
This isn’t spon-con (I WISH) — I just love S&S. For $10 off, here’s my referral link.
Taylor’s new song “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?”
The album is mostly ~shrug~ to me right now. (Before anyone comes for me, I’m a lifelong country bitch — rural Midwest, hello — and have been listening to her since self-titled. Other fans can’t tell me shit!) What I know, though, is that other Taylor albums (Lover, Midnights) have been growers for me in the past, so who’s to say how I’ll feel about this one in a few months.
BUT. “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” is PERFECTION. Every reason I love my spicy Venus in Aquarius, Mars in Scorpio twin. If you listen to one song on this album, listen to this one.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
Y’all know I’ve become a gamer bitch over these last few years. I finally hit my max capacity for Baldur’s Gate 3 (... on my fifth playthrough), and so — at the recommendation of a number of friends and folks in the astrology for writers Discord — I settled on an Assassin's Creed game.
I am LOVING it so far. Plus side: it’s also improving my Fortnite skills. If you’re an AC bitch, get in the comments!
My Rays of Light: Sun & Fixed Stars Reading with Maeg Keane
I finally got a Rays of Light reading with the brilliant, compassionate Maeg Keane. This was on the heels of my partner Meg (3am.tarot) and I hanging out with Maeg in Salem a few weeks ago, so it was extra lovely. I knew this was a special reading — folks rave about it — but wow. The experience of it, as a 12th house sun person, was so special and affirming. Also: educational — Maeg reframed some of my fixed stars for me in such accessible, empowering language. Also: such a call-in, especially with the image of a “crown” that came through. I cannot recommend Maeg and their readings enough!
Writers’ Groups
My own, for example. I missed our last two weekly sessions due to travel, and it was so good and so heart-filling to see them again, and to talk the business of writing, among other things, for several hours at our favorite NYC diner. Two of us have books coming out next month! On the same day! Lilly Dancyger’s First Love: Essays on Friendship and Nina St. Pierre’s debut memoir, Love is a Burning Thing. They are SO GOOD.
Courtesy of a recent conversation with the brilliant Amaya Rourke (whose Medusa and Algol workshops are closing soon!), I’ve also been thinking about the Algonquin Round Table (Dorothy Parker & co.), the Inklings (C.S. Lewis & J.R.R. Tolkien), the Brontë sisters’ enclave, and how those writers groups connect to my own, as well as to Showing Up to the Work.
Writing is not a solitary process. Whether we’re workshopping each other or simply showing up together for accountability and support, artists do better when we are in community with each other. Straight up. A rising tide lifts all boats. Other people around us succeeding helps us rise, helps us increase our own dedication to our craft.
This next session of Showing Up to the Work (which is purposefully West Coast friendly this time!) starts in less than two weeks!
I’ve been an AC girlie since the very first one and Valhalla and Origins are the best two out of recent years. IMHO, you can skip the latest one (Mirage), though. It was surprisingly short and boring given how much it costs.
I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate your friday love lists so much <3 Thank you!
