the full moon in pisces for writers
Hi friends,
Happy Mercury Retrograde! The newsletter for this Mercury Rx went out yesterday and is available in full for paid subscribers.
As you ~may~ have heard, I have a memoir coming out next month! IT IS SO CLOSE. Heretic is the book of my heart, and I am so excited to share it with y’all. If you’re on Twitter, you’ve probably seen me talk about how important pre-orders are for unknown debut authors (which I am), and especially for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ writers, particularly in this cultural climate of intensifying book bans and obscenity cases. However, you can also request Heretic from your local library. Truly: it means the world.
If you’re in NYC and will be attending Brooklyn Book Fest at the end of September, I’ll be doing an event on the 30th with my fellow ex-evangelical debut memoirist Vanessa A. Bee, whose forthcoming Home Bound: An Uprooted Daughter’s Reflections on Belonging is absolutely gutting me. Our event is literally called “Survivor: (Former) Evangelical Millennials Edition.” It’s gonna be fun. Details here.
On that note, let’s jump into today’s Full Moon!
Xx,
Jeanna
We talk about creativity a lot in this newsletter. But let’s be clear: The moon, as a planet, is not itself in charge of creativity, as Mercury rules writers and thoughts and ideas, as Venus rules beauty and aesthetics. The moon is where we go to learn more about our emotions, and our emotional body, and our body itself, and in exploring these things, we may learn much about our creativity indeed. And when the moon is in Pisces, it takes on a distinctly creative tenor, as Pisces, that most changeable and porous of water archetypes, is profoundly concerned with inspiration, with music, with poetry, with human connection. And so our bodies and emotions may become more sensitive to the sound in our environments, to our sensory inputs, to a lyric or beat from the street that hits just right, that jumps just the right synapses to connect to that line or character or transition we were struggling with.
The moon in Pisces promotes flow: that most blissful of states. And the Full Moon in Pisces, which was exact this morning at 5:59a Eastern and applying to a conjunction with dreamy Neptune, is encouraging us all to spend the weekend pursuing our bliss. But like, in the most productivity-free way possible. And with your people, as safely as possible!
Writing Prompt Horoscopes for the Full Moon in Pisces
We’re going to do a little throwback with our horoscopes this week and give every sign their own question horoscope. I’m feeling the urge, and it’s a Pisces moon, so let’s follow that urge, shall we? Remember to read for your rising sign.
This year’s New Moon in Pisces was on March 2. What were you seeding then? What has come to completion, been achieved or accomplished, or even been a lesson learned or an energetic hanger-on discarded in this time frame? Reflect on this as you read about the area of life that the Full Moon in Pisces is highlighting.
Aries & Aries Rising
How have you been working on yourself? For you, this Pisces Full Moon might not “feel” big or illuminate the most obvious areas of life. For you, this is about the most interior parts of your psyche, about the closets and corners of your mind where you are doing that deep, dark work of unlearning and reparenting and processing. While if you work or have recently spent time in a hospital, a jail or prison, or another liminal space, your Full Moon story may be obvious, for most, this is going to highlight the quiet dark nights of the soul and what it reveals in the body — and the hope that is always at the bottom of Pandora’s Box.
Taurus & Taurus Rising
How have you invested in your community over the last six months? How have your friend groups, organizations you volunteer with, and extracurriculars expanded? What have you realized about the value of interdependence over self-reliance? If you have experienced challenges or losses in these areas, what has felt uncomfortable or painful about the circumstance? What might be helpful medicine to lean into?
Gemini & Gemini Rising
What career changes, shifts, accomplishments, and/or milestones are occurring, or about to occur? If not career, how has your public reputation grown, expanded, contracted, or otherwise changed (perhaps due to a job change or experience) over the last six months? How does this feel? Does where you are now align with your values, with what you want for yourself? Do you feel safe? Creatively nourished? Challenged? Capable? What is The Dream? (Is this still The Dream?)
Cancer & Cancer Rising
What have you published recently, or been pitching recently, that feels like a spiritual homecoming? Like the result of growth, of work, of time and practice, of dedication? What intentions did you set around the New Moon in Pisces in March — conscious or subconscious – that had to do with learning and/or teaching, with publishing yourself and/or others, with spiritual challenge and quest?
Leo & Leo Rising
How have you been committed to emotional growth over the last six months? Did something happen earlier in the year that caused a need to develop intimacy, or to create boundaries? Has this impacted, or even inspired, new creative leaps or seeds? On another note, are you at a turning point in your financial life, reckoning with how you manage shared resources with others? Are you tackling taxes or debt in a new way? Managing alimony or child support? Has something changed in your financial life this year that has enabled or challenged how you typically create space for your routines? Now is a good time to check in with yourself around that, especially around how it feels rather than around the process.
Virgo & Virgo Rising
What has recently culminated around your personal relationships? Milestones, breakups, perhaps even a new relationship forming? For you, this moon puts a spotlight on The Dream that is possible with not only romantic and platonic life partners but also agents and book editors. What do you want to nourish and grow in those relationships? What, perhaps, is being released, if relationships are shifting? How are you honoring what you’ve learned, and what you are creating room for?
Libra & Libra Rising
Do you have a big work project or milestone that is arriving, or has recently arrived? (Work in the sense of: the day job; the labor you do for money that may or may not be tied to creativity.) Is this satisfying, or is it revealing new areas where you would rather pursue satisfaction? Also: have you experienced any health issues, diagnoses, or even simple changes to your wellness routine over the last six months that are now revealing results or shifts? How is your body feeling, and how is this impacting the writing? How can you give yourself grace?
Scorpio & Scorpio Rising
For you, especially, this moon is very much about your relationship to creativity, which has undergone a shift this year. What new creative dream were you letting yourself imagine earlier this year? How has it taken root, its fertility seeded in your life and perhaps in others’? How have you allowed yourself to take up space, to pursue pleasure without justification aside from itself? Is a new project, perhaps, coming to fruition or reaching a milestone?
Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising
How have you been creating home for yourself these last six months? What new dreams were you letting yourself imagine when it came to family, home, and the people you wanted in it earlier this year? What has been born of that dream? What challenges have you faced? How are you nourishing the roots that you want to nourish? What people and teachings have been essential to this process?
Capricorn & Capricorn Rising
How have you invested time in your writing routines and daily practices over the last six months? What has shifted, grown, been shed, or come to new realization? What has changed? What feels more holistic, more spiritual, more fulfilling? What doesn’t? On another note, have you moved or otherwise begun new ventures in your immediate neighborhood that have impacted your day-to-day? How has that been for you?
Aquarius & Aquarius Rising
What have you learned about your money over the last six months? More precisely: how have you learned more about what you value, about what you’re willing to spend on and what you’d rather be circumspect with, and why? Where do these habits come from? What emotions does money unlock for you? How are you reforming your relationship to personal finances? And how is this tied to The Dream?
Pisces & Pisces Rising
How has the journey of becoming felt these last six months? Has this revelation of self been reflected in your confidence, in your personal style or aesthetic, or in how you carry yourself? Have you experienced challenges in these areas, or in your conception of self vis a vis how you have traditionally understood or described yourself? How is this moon revealing you in all your glory? How are you creating yourself?
