the partial solar eclipse in taurus for writers
Hi friends,
Welcome to eclipse season! The four eclipses of the year arrive in pairs: today’s, April 30th followed up by one on May 15th, with the next set arriving in the fall, October 25th and November 8th (election day — god, this country needs an astrologer, among other things). Mark your calendars. It’s gonna be a ride.
In honor of eclipse season, I’m having a sale! The newsletter’s annual subscription is 30% off for the next two weeks — $35 for a whole year!
A quick note: as much as is possible, avoid the urge to catastrophize this particular astrological event — we all experience eclipses twice a year! They are, quite honestly, incredibly normal. Everyone around us is having shit dredged up, too. It’s a good time to give yourself, and the people around you, as much grace and spaciousness as you can.
Take care of you,
Jeanna
I got the first pass proof pages of my forthcoming book, Heretic, this week. This is when the book is officially “through” copy edits and has been put into the typeset. Or something.
It’s when the book starts to look like a book.
A lot has happened this week. It’s felt really momentous. Getting pages, having calls, being officially in the “six months out” from book publication. Making spreadsheets for my spreadsheets.
Of course it’s eclipse season.

Every so often, it seems like the energy around us brings up all the things we’re either obsessing over or, alternately, ignoring. Eclipses can invite this energy into ours (and everyone’s) lives, being like, here, please deal with this. Clean your fucking house. It’s not a bad thing. It’s just psychic spring cleaning, as it were.
Today’s partial solar eclipse at 10 degrees of Taurus is, in other words, a new moon eclipse: an eclipse that’s hungry. Ready to clean house. Ready to invite some new shit in. Ready to push you to make those changes that you may not feel ready for. For those familiar with Hindu mythology, this is when Rahu, the dragon with a severed head, swallows the sun. (Very chill metaphor.) North node eclipses have an insatiable quality to them — and in Taurus, the earth sign so associated with planting, with manifestation, this is even more true. Connecting via a sextile to Mars, however diluted by Pisces, this heart-centered motivation is supported.
Traditionally, eclipses have a malefic quality to them. There is an unwieldy intensity to these few weeks every year that means that, while you may well want to plant new seeds on a new moon, you probably want to avoid planting seeds on a solar eclipse (unless you know exactly what the hell you’re doing and have planned accordingly).
Eclipses are more that time of year where everything that has already been planted (or not planted) comes to light. It’s why some eclipse seasons may not feel like that big of a deal for you, quite honestly! Because you’re just doing your thing, and your homework is to just keep doing your thing. And why others knock the absolute shit out of you, however unexpectedly. Sometimes eclipses are lighting up parts of your chart (or life) that simply are not as active or prominent in this particular season. Sometimes, it’s go time. Which is also to say: not all eclipses are created equal for everyone. Is something that’s important to remember.
And hopefully something that brings some peace and releases some tension around all of the clickbait, fear-inducing content that inevitably arises.

Astrology is nothing if not the study of patterns. Of the correlations between the events of the sky with the events of our lives. The last time we had eclipses with the north node (increase) in Taurus and the south node (release) was in Scorpio was in late 2012 through 2014 — which is also when I was getting divorced, coming out as a lesbian, and leaving the church. Which are, as many of y’all know, the crisis events that form the crux of Heretic.
Also: book comes out on October 25th, which is… also an eclipse.
Things really do have a way of coming around.
Writing Prompts for the Partial Solar Eclipse in Taurus
What area of your life do you feel insatiable hunger in? (Aka: where do you feel the most need coupled with the most fear?) How can you find or create a sense of safety that is reasonably available in this moment? How can you ask for support during this time?
How are you creating space for rest and care right now?
Wishing you and yours a safe and restful eclipse season. If you’d like to support the newsletter while it’s on sale, that is incredibly appreciated!
