This weekend, I’ve berated myself for not keeping pace with the 1000 Words of Summer challenge (and my own personal word count goals). But I’ve also been doing a lot of dreaming, a lot of pacing, and a lot of talking to myself about The Current Book — which has, perhaps unsurprisingly, helped me have some Important Breakthroughs. I’ve made new playlists and edited the book’s Pinterest board, which always help me find its resonance. Those moments have felt like a reminder to take my own advice — to acknowledge that the writing process isn’t just what is produced on the page. It’s all the simmering and backburnering and muttering to myself while out on a walk that goes into it.
As we move through this week, one full of brambles and briars, let’s remember to consider — and value — all the pieces of the process that is Creative Work. Sometimes, we need to just embrace the journey and not dwell on the destination.

12:34am: Mars enters Taurus
Mars slows down into earthy Taurus, which wants to take its time and enjoy the scenery. Lingering frustrations slow from a boil to a simmer. The area of life where Mars has been digging up terrain gets to rest as Mars moves on to plow another field.
The best part is that whereas Mars in Aries satiates itself by constantly doing and moving (a way of being distinctly at odds with pandemic life), Mars in Taurus craves a quiet, settled morning where it can be still and simply notice and appreciate. Ideal as we settle into early summer, when the sky is bright and the promise of growth drives us toward the garden, toward anything we can dig our hands into.
This transit is especially good for creative projects that require a slow burn; observational mornings; starting meditation and mindfulness practices that get you in touch with your body, your senses, and the world around you.
