The first week of the Gregorian new year is, blessedly, not nearly as packed (or fraught) as the week that just doula’d us out of 2023.
Mercury finally stations direct after an absolutely riotous retrograde. Later in the week, Mars, where we find our courage and conviction, enters Capricorn. This is good news: it will really empower us this month to lay a strong foundation for the year. Wherever you put your energy will be a source of nourishment and routine.
We also start the year on the knife-edge between desire and death. (More on that in the week’s transits.)
While the turn of the clock hands from December 31, 2023 to January 1, 2024 is not, in and of itself, inherently astrologically significant, I would be remiss to suggest that it is not energetically significant. While there are still other New Years that are celebrated — perhaps most famously, the Chinese New Year, which follows a lunisolar calendar — for billions of people around the world, January 1st is where the attention and anticipation is directed. And that does create a turning point.
This is a natural moment where, regardless of whether you set “resolutions,” we are invited to reflect on the year that has passed and to consider what we want to birth, commit to, and otherwise change in the year that is coming.
Before we jump into the week ahead, an important note: I am taking a step back from 1:1 readings in 2024 so as to invest in my own book projects.
That means that if you want to work with me, the best way to do so is through classes and containers.
If you’re a writer looking for long-term stability in your writing routine, Showing Up to the Work is for you — starts next Wednesday and goes through the end of March!
If you’re looking to reinvigorate your art with some new magical practices, Enchanting Your Writing is a one-time workshop coming up at the end of January.
And if you’re a former English major and astrology nerd, or if you’d like to re-frame how you think about the current Saturn transit, then my downloadable 3-hour lecture Poison & Cure: The Art & Literature of Saturn in Pisces, which covers 500+ years (!) of western culture (largely English and American) produced by this transit, might interest you.
And now, for the week ahead!
