Friday is Venus’s day. A day for connection, for beauty, for joy. For sharing what is bringing us joy, and what we’ve loved.
The Friday Love List is in honor of and offering to Venus. Here are some of the things that most brought me pleasure and delight this week.
Things I loved this week
Tarot Reading
Meg and I have been pulling cards with Cedar McCloud’s Numinous Tarot and I have fallen in love with it all over again. Cedar’s queer inclusive, thoughtful re-envisioning of the suits, the court cards, and difficult Majors like The Devil and Judgment is just breathtaking. It’s an eminently readable deck, too. I’m gonna give this one as a gift this year.
Watching
Survivor. My family watched the first few seasons together wayyyy back when I was still under my parents’ roof, and my sister and I have been re-discovering the show and blowing through the newer seasons. I have also successfully got my partner, my best friend and her husband (who we are currently visiting in snowy New England), and some of our D&D group hooked on Survivor. A thrill, truly. Also, a recent episode in the latest season was called “Scorpio Energy.” If you need more motivation.
Playing
The new season of Fortnite. New map locations include The Underworld and Olympus. I am LIVING. Can I consecrate my Fortnite wins to Jupiter? That’s a thought.
Listening
Witches, magicians, & occult practitioners! Do you know The Frightful Howls You May Hear podcast? It is so good. I always listen to it when I’m doing the dishes. It’s just so smart and thoughtful and comprehensive. And a free way to learn from incredible practitioners of such a high caliber. A great starter episode: So You Think You Can Ward, on protection magic.
Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, obviously. Some current faves include Tyrant and Sweet*Honey*Buckiin’. Tell me yours!
Witnessing
My partner Meg Jones Wall of 3am.tarot recently turned in the first complete draft of their new book on tarot spreads. It’s so good. Meg’s tarot work is such a gift to us all. They also recently launched their new Conservatory, which is an incredible membership program where you can take advantage of all their past courses as well as a Discord membership. A $1000+ value for $50/month. Get it here!
Nonfiction writers!
I recently launched (tiered) book proposal coaching, with something for everyone no matter what stage of the game you’re in. And if you’re just starting out, my How to Write a Book Proposal self-paced independent study is available for pre-order (delivering at the end of Mercury Rx).
Reminder: all-genre accountability group starting soon!
The next 6-week session of Showing Up to the Work, for writers of all genres in need of getting words on the page, having community support, and/or developing a regular routine, starts at the end of April. Spots are limited.
What are you loving this week? Tell me in the comments!
This week I am loving slow walk videos on YouTube. I put them on while I write, and I when I come up for air, I get to experience a sleepy sunrise walk through a village in the Cotswolds or a snowy night trek through Shinjuku without leaving my desk.
I love this Friday Love List Idea: I tried various gratiude exercises, but never quite got the hang of them. But this once a week is a great idea for just stepping back and reviewing the week from the perspective of love.
This week I connected with the Venus/Neptune energy - I dug out my old paperback of The Hobbit. I've been reading an up to date (published in 2023) SciFi book Oxygen Farmer by Colin Holmes. Watched Summit on Astrology University about the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction. Binged on some series broadcast on BritBox. Loved every minuted of it all.
