Friday is Venus’s day. A day for connection, for beauty, for joy. For sharing what is bringing us joy, and what we’ve loved.
The Friday Love List is in honor of and offering to Venus. Here are some of the things that most brought me pleasure and delight this week.
Things I loved this week
Reading
- ’s newsletter “The number one way to support a book” on the importance of pre-orders. She breaks all the options down. (Also, her incredible second book, First Love: Essays on Friendship, comes out next month!)
- ’s meditation on John Keats and Negative Capability. I love Keats, and I’ve been revisiting his letters recently for a book project, so it was a delight to see this show up in my inbox today. River’s writing is so great.
- ’s “We Need to Talk About Trad Husbands.” I talked to Sara last year for her “Trad Wives Hiding in Plain Sight” podcast episode, and this examination of the husbands is SUCH a good follow-up.
Eating
I was in New England this last week, and these Maple Leaf Cookies from local favorite Ben’s Sugar Shack changed my life. I love anything maple, but these are QUALITY.
Smelling
Witch City Wicks’ “Ceremony.” I’ve loved Witch City Wicks candles for a long time, but we were visiting friends in Salem and one of them was burning this in their house and I was obsessed. So now it’s burning in our house! Here are the scent notes: A complex fragrance that is a woody, warm blend of sandalwood and musk with hints of rich amber, cedar, clover, and lavender, accentuated with fennel, ginger and cardamom.
Playing
With my three-year-old nibling for the last week. It’s so strange to be back home in NYC and not have a 3-year-old greeting me every morning with “GOOD MORNING, AUNTIE JEANNA!” ~sob~
Nonfiction writers!
I recently launched (tiered) book proposal coaching, with something for everyone no matter what stage of the game you’re in. And if you’re just starting out, my How to Write a Book Proposal self-paced independent study is available for pre-order (delivering at the end of Mercury Rx).
Reminder: all-genre accountability group starting soon!
The next 6-week session of Showing Up to the Work, for writers of all genres in need of getting words on the page, having community support, and/or developing a regular routine, starts at the end of April. Spots are limited.

Loved the Eclipse. In these times we understand the scientific/astronomical process. We receive various views via the internest that we would not otherwise see. YET IT IS STILL A WONDROUS MYSTERY which invites us to pause and consider this amazing event.
I finished two quilt projects. One a small pouch with a new technique. And a mini quilt full of orange, turquoise, yellow greens, and pops of blue and red purple. I practiced embroidery, hand tying, and sewing secure buttons. I loved that I finished each project but that I listened to my rhythms and started to know when to hold back and when to keep going.
