My bags are packed, my vacation responders are set, and I’ve officially checked in for my flights tomorrow — which can only mean one thing.
I’m heading to Iowa to teach for the next month.
On Monday, I start teaching an Advanced Memoir class for creative writing students at Cornell College, which is my beloved alma mater. Cornell is one of a handful of colleges in the United States that works on the OCAAT system: “One Course at a Time.” It was an incredible way to do school as someone who prefers total immersion. Students take one class (a semester’s worth of material) for a month: four hours a day, Monday through Friday). As you can imagine, for English Lit and creative writing classes, that means a significant amount of reading and writing in a short amount of time. It turned out to be incredible preparation for graduate school (and life, generally).
Since I graduated *mumbles* almost 15 years ago, a lot has changed. The Cornell English Department now has separate literature and creative writing tracks. A new house off-campus is designated for literary events and houses an 1876 Washington iron hand press (!) where students get to gain a hands-on understanding about publication design and the history of the book. And, of course, I’m returning to the Hilltop this fall not as a student, but as a faculty member. Homecoming weekend, where I inevitably run into people I used to go to school with, is going to be… interesting.
But what does that mean for you and for the newsletter?
I’m not entirely going on hiatus — I’d never leave y’all high and dry during eclipse season. So I’m treating this as a half-hiatus (a continuation of one I have unofficially been on since my hysterectomy in July). Here’s the plan for the newsletter:
Stays the same:
Week Ahead forecasts will go out to paid subscribers as normal.
New and Full Moon newsletters will also go out (the next one is that October 2nd eclipse — whew)
Stops / Delays:
No new Ask Jeannas, interviews, or topical essays like so you want to do a book deal spell or a writing schedule is not a writing practice.
I will be unavailable for timely email or DM responses to client follow-ups and inquiries.
Because I won’t be around to closely monitor the uber-active Astrology for Writers Discord for the next few weeks, I’m opening it up again for new subscribers a limited time today before I go. The invitation link will be active for the next seven days, and then the Discord will essentially be closed to new members through the end of October.
If you’ve been wanting to work with me and are like damn, this timing blows, here are some options for you:
Subscribe to the newsletter, obviously! and specifically join the Discord, because there is a phenomenal community of writers and astro enthusiasts over there who are helping each other troubleshoot literally every goddamn day.
I will not be taking on any new clients or electional work for the next 4+ weeks, but my books for Year Ahead readings are open if you want to secure your spot once I’m back. There are, at present, 2 slots left for November and 5 slots left for December.
Watch the Fill Your Cup workshop that I ran with my beloved, Meg Jones Wall (who will be joining me in Iowa, I’m so excited).
Deep dive into the art and literature of this current Saturn in Pisces moment with my lecture from last year, which is now half off on sale for $19. (Also, I’ve already started researching for the next lecture on Saturn in Aries, so get ready.)
Check out my trusted spiritual providers who are currently booking 1:1 consultation here.
I’ll see y’all on the flip side.
Lots of love!
